How much does it cost to hire carol singers?

Carol singing is one of the few Christmas line items where a quoted figure tells you almost nothing on its own. One provider prices per singer, another per set, and a December surcharge can appear only when the invoice lands. This guide sets out what The London Choral Service charges for carol singers in 2026, how that compares with the wider UK market, and which decisions actually move the figure.

What carol singers cost

These are our 2026 prices, the same figures published on our pricing page. The London Choral Service charges the same rates at Christmas as during the rest of the year. There is no seasonal uplift on any ensemble.

Soloistone voice One trained singer for a small office gathering, a private dinner, or a shop floor. Sings unaccompanied or alongside a pianist. From £250
Small Choir4 singers Soprano, alto, tenor, and bass: four-part harmony with no instrument required. The usual booking for an office reception, a hotel lobby, or a residents’ evening. From £1,150
Quintet5 singers A second soprano strengthens the melody line and opens up carol arrangements a quartet cannot cover. From £1,400
Sextet6 singers Six add weight on the outer parts and carry a room with a steady hum; where a party is in full flow, eight is the size that cuts through it without a microphone. From £1,600
Full Choir8 singers Eight voices for a church carol service, a livery hall, or any room where the audience is expected to sing along. From £2,000
Chorus12 singers Twelve voices for cathedral acoustics, large charity carol concerts, and double-choir repertoire. From £3,000
Organist or pianistadded to any ensemble Carol and hymn accompaniment plus up to three performance pieces, played on the venue’s own organ or piano where there is one. From £225

Prices include all taxes, fees, and travel within Greater London. The figure we quote is the figure you pay.

For context: booking a carol group through a UK entertainment agency typically comes to four figures for a single event, so our Small Choir of four professional singers at £1,150 sits within the ordinary market range rather than above it. The difference is that our figure does not move because the date happens to be in December.

What the price includes

Everything needed to put trained singers in your venue, ready to perform:

  • The singers themselves, for a standard Christmas booking of up to an hour and a half including breaks, or the length of a church service
  • Rehearsal and musical preparation
  • Sheet music and arrangements
  • Programme planning with you, and coordination with your venue
  • Travel within Greater London
  • All fees and taxes

Nothing gets added afterwards. Where a genuine extra applies — travel beyond Greater London, an organist or pianist, a keyboard and speaker for a venue with no piano — the amount goes into your written quote before you commit to anything.

What moves the price

Six things account for almost every difference between one carol-singing quote and another.

  • The number of singers. This is the big one. The gap between a soloist at £250 and a twelve-voice chorus at £3,000 dwarfs every other variable, which is why the size decision is worth taking slowly. See the room-by-room guidance below.
  • Duration. A standard Christmas booking runs up to an hour and a half including breaks, or the length of a church service. If you want the singers for longer, that attracts a premium, and we put the figure in the quote at the outset rather than adding it later.
  • The date. Every December date costs the same as any other day of the year, with two exceptions. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day carry a premium, typically around 25 per cent, confirmed in the written quote. We do sing on both.
  • Travel. Prices cover venues within Greater London. For venues further afield, the travel supplement depends on the location and the number of singers. We calculate it before you book and include it in your written quote, so you know the full cost from the start.
  • Accompaniment. An organist or pianist is from £225 on top of the singers. Carol singing needs no instrument at all — four professional voices are self-sufficient — so this is a choice rather than a requirement, and it matters most for church services and congregational singing.
  • Instrument provision. If your venue has no piano and you want accompaniment anyway, we can bring a keyboard and speaker. That carries an extra charge, quoted upfront.

Which size suits which room

Budget and room size pull in opposite directions, so it helps to start from the space rather than the figure.

An office lobby or reception

Four singers at £1,150. A quartet fills a reception area or an atrium comfortably, and it can roam among arriving guests or stand as a group in a corner. Add a fifth or sixth voice only if the ceiling is high and the floor is hard.

A drinks party in full flow

Six singers at £1,600. Once a couple of hundred people are talking, four unamplified voices start to work too hard. Eight carry over the noise and hold their quality across two sets without anyone pushing.

A church carol service

Eight singers at £2,000, usually with an organist from £250. Eight voices lead a congregation through O Come All Ye Faithful and still have the range for choir-only pieces such as the Darke In the Bleak Midwinter. Our guide to hiring a choir for a Christmas event goes through the format in more detail.

A large hall or cathedral

Twelve singers at £3,000. Long acoustics and audiences in the hundreds need weight of sound, and twelve voices open up double-choir repertoire that smaller groups cannot attempt.

How to get a quote

Send us the date, the venue, and roughly how long you want the singing to last. We reply with a written quote within 48 hours, covering the ensemble, any accompaniment, and any travel or Christmas Eve premium that applies. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation to book.

If your budget is fixed, tell us the number. We would rather match an ensemble to your budget than talk you into a larger one. Full prices for every ensemble are on our pricing page, and our carol singers page covers how a booking runs on the day.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to hire carol singers for an office party?

A small choir of four singers costs from £1,150, a sextet of six from £1,600, and a full choir of eight from £2,000. Most office parties book four or six voices. The price covers all taxes, fees, and travel within Greater London, and we charge the same rates in December as we do in June.

Do carol singers cost more at Christmas?

The London Choral Service does not raise its rates for December. Our published prices apply all year, so a small choir of four singers costs from £1,150 whatever the date. The exception is Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, which carry a premium of typically around 25 per cent, confirmed in your written quote.

How many carol singers do you need?

Four voices suit an office reception, a hotel lobby, or a shop floor. Eight carry a busy party where guests are talking; six suit a room with a steadier hum. Eight work in a church service or a hall of several hundred people, and twelve are for cathedral acoustics and large carol services. We will recommend a size once we know the room.

What is included in the price of hiring carol singers?

The fee covers the singers, rehearsal and preparation, sheet music and arrangements, programme planning, coordination with your venue, travel within Greater London, and all taxes and fees. Travel further afield, an organist or pianist, and a keyboard for a venue with no piano are priced separately and quoted upfront.
